Keeping Your Plates Looking New: A Simple Care Guide

By RegXperts

A quality plate should look great for years โ€” and a little care keeps it that way. Here's how to clean and protect your plates without damaging the finish.

Cleaning the right way

Most of the time, plates clean up perfectly with your normal car wash: warm water, a mild car shampoo and a soft microfibre cloth. Rinse off loose dirt and grit first so you don't drag it across the surface.

What to avoid

  • Harsh solvents and abrasive cleaners โ€” they can dull or damage the finish.
  • Scouring pads or stiff brushes โ€” soft cloths only.
  • Aggressive scrubbing around raised 3D gel or 4D characters.

Caring for raised finishes

3D gel and 4D plates have raised characters, so wipe gently around the edges where dirt can gather. A soft detailing brush is handy for getting into the gaps without force.

Pressure washers

A pressure washer is fine for general rinsing, but keep the nozzle a sensible distance away and avoid blasting directly at the edges of raised characters at close range.

Long-term shine

Drying with a clean microfibre cloth prevents water spotting and keeps that just-fitted look. Treat your plates as part of your detailing routine and they'll stay crisp for the long run.
