How to Fit Your Number Plates: Adhesive Pads vs Screws

By RegXperts

New plates arrived? Fitting them is a quick job. The main decision is how to attach them โ€” adhesive pads or screws. Here's how to choose and how to do it neatly.

Adhesive sticky pads

Strong double-sided pads are the cleanest option โ€” no visible fixings, no drilling, just a smooth, flush finish. They're quick to apply and ideal for most modern vehicles. This is the most popular choice for premium 3D gel and 4D plates because nothing interrupts the look.

Screws and caps

Screws offer a very secure, traditional fixing, often with colour-matched caps to tidy the heads. They suit vehicles with pre-drilled plate holes and anyone who wants the most robust attachment.

Fitting step by step

  • Clean the mounting area thoroughly and let it dry โ€” adhesion depends on it.
  • Dry-position the plate first and check it sits straight and central.
  • For pads: apply, then press firmly across the whole plate for several seconds.
  • For screws: use the existing holes and finish with caps for a clean look.

Make it easy

Add a fixing kit to your order and your plates arrive ready to fit. If you'd like advice on the best option for your vehicle, just ask.
